PADI Discover Scuba Diving in Hurghada costs €50 per person and takes one day. You get a short theory briefing, a shallow-water skills session, and two guided dives to a maximum of twelve meters, always with a PADI Instructor at your side. The minimum age is ten. This is an experience program rather than a certification course. Nevertheless, the two dives you make here count towards the PADI Open Water Diver course if you decide to continue, which many guests do the very next day. Discover Scuba Diving is a supervised introductory scuba program for people with no certification, made up of a briefing, a skills session and two guided dives. First comes a briefing of roughly thirty minutes, in which your instructor explains how the equipment works, how to equalize your ears, and the few hand signals you will actually use.
Then you enter shallow water and practice three simple skills: clearing water from your mask, recovering the regulator, and equalizing as you descend. Nobody moves on until every skill feels comfortable.
Afterwards you make two dives on the reef, each around twenty-five minutes. Because the instructor stays within arm’s reach throughout, you can simply look around instead of worrying about anything.
A Discover Scuba day in Hurghada runs from about 08:00 to 17:30 and includes two dives. Above all, nothing is rushed, and the schedule shifts with the boat and the weather.
We collect you from your hotel within Hurghada and drive to the marina, which usually takes twenty minutes or so.
Next, the boat leaves for the first site while your instructor runs the theory briefing and fits your equipment personally.
Skills come first in waist-deep water. Then, once you feel ready, the first dive follows immediately on the reef beside the boat.
Lunch, tea, coffee and water are served while the boat moves to a second site. Meanwhile most guests spend the surface interval snorkeling.
The second dive is noticeably easier, since the equipment already feels familiar and your breathing has settled.
Finally the boat returns to the marina and we drive you back, usually by half past five.
Discover Scuba Diving in Hurghada asks for a minimum age of ten, basic comfort in water and a signed medical form. Importantly, no certification and no previous experience are needed at all.
Children of ten and eleven dive to a maximum of twelve meters, exactly like adults on this program. Younger children can join PADI Bubblemaker from eight instead.
You do not need to swim well, although basic water confidence helps a great deal. In fact many guests who describe themselves as weak swimmers finish both dives happily.
Everyone completes the standard PADI medical form beforehand. However, if any answer flags asthma, heart conditions, recent surgery or pregnancy, a doctor’s approval becomes necessary first.
Plan the program for any day except the one before your flight home. Otherwise you risk decompression problems, so we simply refuse bookings that break this rule.
The two Discover Scuba dives take place on sheltered Red Sea reefs close to Hurghada, reached by boat from the marina. As a result, the sites have warm water, little current and short crossings, which is exactly what a first dive needs. Meanwhile, the shallow-water skills session happens beside the boat or in a pool, depending on the day and the site. Hotel transfer within Hurghada is included in the €50.
