The PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy course in Hurghada costs €180 per person and takes one day. You make two coached dives with an instructor who fixes your weighting, adjusts your trim, and teaches you to hover, glide and turn without using your hands. The minimum age is ten and you need an Open Water certification first. The €180 covers the coaching and the certification only: the two dives book as a normal daily diving day, and the PADI digital materials cost extra.
Nothing else you can buy improves your diving this quickly. In other words, a diver with good buoyancy uses less gas, damages nothing and sees more, and that is exactly what these two dives are for. Furthermore, full standards come from PADI. Red Sea Diving is a PADI dive operator based in Hurghada, Egypt, and has run diving and liveaboard trips on the Red Sea since 2000.

PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy is the specialty that fixes a diver’s weighting, trim and hovering across two coached dives. Above all, it changes your air consumption: a diver who fights the water breathes hard, and most guests notice a longer dive on the very first coached descent.
Moreover, it changes what you touch. Once you hover properly you stop grabbing the reef to steady yourself, which matters here more than almost anywhere.
Finally, it changes what you see. Because you stop managing yourself, your attention goes to the fish, the wreck or the camera instead.
The two coached dives of the PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy course work through four things in order. Importantly, none of it is theory for its own sake.
Most divers carry too much lead. First your instructor runs a proper weight check, then strips the excess off until you can hold a stop with an almost empty cylinder.
Where the weight sits, not just how much. Consequently you stop swimming with your feet down and start moving flat through the water, which cuts drag immediately.
Holding position with your breathing rather than your hands or fins. Subsequently you practice it still, then moving, and finally through obstacles until it feels automatic.
Clipping off hoses, tucking the gauge and losing whatever drags behind you. Small changes, although the difference in effort surprises most divers.
The PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy day in Hurghada runs across a single boat trip with two coached dives. Meanwhile the knowledge sections are finished before you arrive.
PADI sells the digital materials separately, and we send you the link as soon as you book. Consequently the theory is finished at home.
First your instructor watches how you kit up and where your weight sits, then plans exactly what to change on the first dive.
Next you adjust weight, move it around and repeat the hover until the numbers are right. Meanwhile the instructor films or watches from below.
An honest debrief with the changes written down. Therefore the second dive starts from a real plan rather than a general intention.
Finally you put it together: hovering, gliding, turning and passing through obstacles without touching anything. Certification follows the same day.
Because the two dives run on a normal boat day, plenty of guests add a third dive afterwards and simply enjoy the difference.
The PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy course asks for an Open Water certification and a minimum age of ten. Naturally, no extra logged dives are required at all.
You need a PADI Open Water Diver certification, or a qualifying entry-level certification from another recognized agency. Nothing beyond that is required.
Junior divers of ten to fourteen take the same course with the depth limits that match their age. Indeed, learning this early saves years of bad habits.
None at all. Even so, the course works best once you have a handful of dives and know what your own problem actually feels like.
Everyone completes the standard PADI medical form. Nevertheless, if any answer flags asthma, heart or circulation problems, epilepsy, ear or sinus trouble, recent surgery or pregnancy, a doctor’s written approval comes first.
The €180 price of the PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy course in Hurghada covers the coaching and the certification, while the boat day itself is charged separately.
Not included: the PADI digital materials, the boat day itself, equipment rental, marine park fees and transfers from outside Hurghada. The two dives book as a normal daily diving day, and we quote the whole thing together before you commit.
Ask any instructor which single thing separates a comfortable diver from an exhausted one, and the answer is always the same. Gas planning, navigation and photography all sit on top of buoyancy, since none of them work while you are sinking or floating.
Moreover, the reef benefits too. Broken coral almost always comes from a diver who could not hold position, so the course does as much for the site as it does for you. Our diving safety page sets out how we brief reef contact on every dive.
For independent reading on diving physiology and gas consumption, Divers Alert Network publishes clear material.
Both dives of the PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy course run from a day boat leaving the Hurghada marina, on the Egyptian Red Sea coast. Specifically, we pick sheltered sandy sites in the Giftun area, because a calm bottom with clear features makes the exercises teachable.
Hotel transfer inside Hurghada comes with the course. Moreover, we collect students from El Gouna, Makadi Bay, Sahl Hasheesh, Soma Bay and Safaga for a small surcharge, which we confirm in writing before you book.
Our Hurghada dive sites page shows the reefs we normally use. Meanwhile non-diving family can join the Giftun island and snorkeling trip, and further answers sit on our diving FAQ.

Good buoyancy makes every other specialty easier. Underwater Photography becomes possible rather than frustrating, Wreck Diver gets safer, and Enriched Air Nitrox pays off more once your gas consumption drops.
If you want depth and experience, Advanced Open Water counts this course as one of its Adventure Dives. Further along, Rescue Diver is the course most divers later call the most useful. Log dives meanwhile through our daily diving in Hurghada or a liveaboard week, and see the full ladder on our PADI courses page.
Why us
Above all, oxygen and full emergency equipment on board, plus a documented action plan and a proper briefing before every dive.
Indeed, more than two decades of diving and liveaboard operations out of Hurghada, on every Egyptian route.
Furthermore, this course only works with close attention, so we keep it to a pair at most.
Small increments rather than blocks of two kilos, because getting the weighting right needs the equipment to allow it.
Moreover, we state plainly that the dives and the materials sit outside the €180, and we quote the full cost before you book.
In addition, this is the course that stops divers breaking coral, so we run it as often as anybody asks.

Bring your certification card and your own equipment if you dive in it regularly, because we adjust the weighting around whatever you actually use.
In most cases yes, and often noticeably. A diver who stops fighting the water breathes slower, although the size of the gain depends on where you started.
Ask your guide to watch your trim on the next dive and tell you honestly. Experienced divers often gain the most, since small corrections compound over hundreds of dives.
Sometimes, where conditions and equipment allow. Seeing your own trim on screen shortens the learning considerably, so ask when you book.
Almost certainly. Most divers finish the course carrying two to four kilos less than they arrived with.
