What is the PADI Bubblemaker experience?

PADI Bubblemaker is a supervised introductory scuba experience for children aged eight and over, run in confined water no deeper than two meters. In other words, it lets them put on real scuba equipment and find out what breathing underwater actually feels like, in water shallow enough that an adult can stand up in it.

Above all, the whole point is enjoyment rather than training. Indeed, there is no theory, no exam and no skills list to tick off. A PADI Professional stays with your child from the first breath to the last, and the session ends whenever your child has had enough.

To be clear, however, PADI Bubblemaker is not a certification. Consequently, it does not qualify a child to dive in open water without a professional present.

How does the PADI Bubblemaker hour run?

A PADI Bubblemaker session in Hurghada lasts about one hour and divides into three parts. First of all, nothing happens in the water until your child is comfortable on land.

  1. Briefing

The instructor explains how the equipment works, how to breathe normally underwater, how to use a mask and regulator, the basic hand signals, and the single most important rule in diving: never hold your breath.

  2. Getting kitted up

Next, we fit your child with equipment sized for them wherever suitable children’s kit is available. We never rush this part, so they get to handle everything before it goes on.

  3. Into the water

Finally, they enter the shallow water and start breathing underwater under direct supervision, to a maximum of two meters. Above all, each activity is introduced gradually, at whatever pace suits your child.

Who can join PADI Bubblemaker, and how do we keep it safe?

PADI Bubblemaker in Hurghada is open to children aged eight and over, and the maximum depth of two meters is a hard limit rather than a guideline. Importantly, the instructor stays within arm’s reach for the whole hour.

Who can join

In short, children aged eight and over who are comfortable in water, medically fit and able to follow simple safety instructions. A parent or guardian must give permission and complete the PADI registration and medical forms. Your child needs no previous experience, and does not have to be a strong swimmer.

Safety first, always

Every session runs in a pool or sheltered confined water, and never in open water. Two meters is therefore the hard limit. Moreover, the instructor stays within arm’s reach, and no child is ever pushed to finish an activity they are unhappy with.

Medical clearance

If the medical questionnaire flags anything that could affect safety on scuba, your child needs a doctor’s approval first. Simply mention it when you inquire, and a local physician can usually sign off the same day.

Parents can watch

Where the facility allows it, parents watch from a designated area at the poolside. In addition, most children settle faster knowing you are there, and the photos are better too.

Should you choose PADI Bubblemaker or PADI Seal Team?

PADI Bubblemaker costs €75 for one hour, while PADI Seal Team costs €150 and runs over two days. Both programs start at age eight, yet in practice they are built for different appetites. Bubblemaker is one hour and one session, which suits a child who simply wants to try it once during a family holiday.

By contrast, PADI Seal Team is the fuller program: five AquaMissions spread over two days, at €150 per child. Because there is far more water time, children practice proper skills and finish genuinely confident rather than merely curious.

As a result, many families do Bubblemaker first and book Seal Team later in the same week, once they see how their child takes to it.

What comes after PADI Bubblemaker?

After PADI Bubblemaker, the natural next step is PADI Seal Team at €150 per child. Then, from age ten, children may be ready to start the PADI Junior Open Water Diver course at €350 and earn a full certification. Even so, readiness depends on age, maturity, swimming ability and medical fitness rather than on enthusiasm alone.

Meanwhile, if the rest of the family wants to be in the water on the same day, our Hurghada island and snorkeling trip works well alongside a morning session, and certified divers can join daily diving. Naturally, all our procedures are set out on the diving safety page.
