Better buoyancy
Position, trim, weighting and control. Above all, good buoyancy reduces effort, improves gas consumption and protects the reef.
BSAC Advanced Ocean Diver · Keep Going · Hurghada
The next step after Ocean Diver. Two days of supervised Red Sea training dives, plus four theory sessions, that sharpen your buoyancy, navigation, planning and buddy skills, and extend your qualification depth from 20 to 30 meters. Taught by Red Sea Diving on the reefs around Hurghada.

The BSAC Advanced Ocean Diver course is the optional second step in the British Sub-Aqua Club training program, sitting between Ocean Diver and Sports Diver. In Hurghada it costs €250 per person for the training, with BSAC registration, membership, eLearning, materials and certification fees charged separately. Candidates must hold BSAC Ocean Diver or an accepted equivalent and be at least fourteen. The course takes two days in Hurghada, combining four theory sessions with supervised open water training dives, and on completion you can dive to 30 meters accompanied by a Sports Diver or above. Red Sea Diving runs it on the reefs around Hurghada as a BSAC training center.
Moreover, the €250 covers what happens here: the instruction, the training dives, the boat, the tanks and the transfers within Hurghada. Therefore any BSAC fee that applies to your status is explained in writing before you confirm. The program follows the standards published by the British Sub-Aqua Club for this qualification.

Advanced Ocean Diver is the short, optional step. By contrast, Sports Diver is the full second grade of the BSAC program, with decompression theory, rescue and dive management, and it opens the door to more than thirty skill development courses. Consequently most divers take Advanced Ocean Diver first, because it extends the depth limit to 30 meters in a few days rather than a full course.
Furthermore, it is not wasted effort. Sports Diver trainees who have completed the relevant skills and theory can be awarded Advanced Ocean Diver as an interim qualification, so the two overlap by design.
In short, it maps closely to the PADI Advanced Open Water step: same 30-meter outcome, the same emphasis on buoyancy and navigation, and a qualification recognized worldwide.
Position, trim, weighting and control. Above all, good buoyancy reduces effort, improves gas consumption and protects the reef.
Planning according to depth, conditions, experience and available gas, so the 30-meter limit is a plan rather than a surprise.
Keeping track of your buddy, depth, gas supply, environment and changing conditions throughout the dive.
Practical underwater navigation, so you hold a heading and know where you are, especially on a wall or in current.
Ascent technique, safety stops and communication with your buddy, because the way you come up matters more at 30 meters.
Communication, positioning and awareness, which make you the buddy other divers want to be paired with.
Likewise, the theory and practice of no-decompression diving between 20 and 30 meters, including narcosis awareness.
In addition, supervised experience of the reef walls and gentle drift sites that Hurghada is known for.
Finally, supervised dives that prepare you for Sports Diver, rather than a repeat of the basics.
However, the exact skills follow the current BSAC syllabus and your training needs. In other words, your instructor evaluates you progressively rather than on one final dive.

To begin with, we check your certification, your logged dives, your logbook where appropriate, your medical declaration and your equipment needs.
Then the knowledge behind the planned dives, by eLearning at home or in person with your instructor, so the skills make sense before you try them.
Next, buoyancy, navigation and buddy exercises on a sheltered reef, at familiar depths.
Afterward, progressive dives toward 30 meters on a reef wall, with planning and controlled ascents assessed on each one.
Finally, a progressive evaluation across the dives rather than a single test, and your Advanced Ocean Diver qualification.
However, the schedule depends on your previous qualification, your experience, your progress and the weather. Consequently we confirm the day-by-day plan once we have reviewed your certification.
Not an Ocean Diver yet? Start with the BSAC Ocean Diver course, since the two can run back to back within one stay. Moreover, if your certification is from another agency, send it to us first, because eligibility is confirmed before the program is.

Therefore your written quotation shows the training price and each applicable BSAC fee as separate lines. In fact, that is why the headline says €250 rather than a vaguer all-in figure.

Hurghada gives an Advanced Ocean Diver candidate exactly the variety the course is for: coral reefs, reef walls that drop past 30 meters, gentle drift sites and daily boat diving, all within one day’s range. Consequently every exercise happens in real conditions rather than a pool.
Moreover, good visibility makes it easier to concentrate on buoyancy, navigation and buddy awareness, and the marine life turns up regardless: butterflyfish, angelfish, moray eels, lionfish, blue-spotted stingrays and, often, turtles. However, wildlife encounters are natural and therefore never guaranteed.
Furthermore, our daily diving continues after you qualify, and our procedures are set out on the diving safety page.

The full second grade: decompression theory, rescue skills and dive management. Afterward, more than thirty skill development courses open up.
By contrast, short single-topic courses. For example, buoyancy and navigation have direct equivalents here in Peak Performance Buoyancy and Underwater Navigator.
Then the grade that lets you plan and lead dives, and extends your depth to 50 meters with decompression.
Overall, the BSAC route runs: Ocean Diver → Advanced Ocean Diver → Sports Diver → Dive Leader. Meanwhile, your Advanced Ocean Diver card already covers most of our daily boat trips, and a liveaboard week is the fastest way to log the experience, as well as the place where Nitrox earns its keep.
