BSAC Advanced Instructor Course in Hurghada
From teaching a lesson to running the training. Advanced Instructor develops an Open Water Instructor’s planning, leadership and dive management into the judgment needed for more complex teaching, deeper environments and coordinating other instructors, taught across the reefs, wrecks and boats of Hurghada.

What is a BSAC Advanced Instructor?
A BSAC Advanced Instructor is a higher-level qualification in the British Sub-Aqua Club instructor training scheme, developing an Open Water Instructor into someone who can teach and manage more complex diving activities, coordinate other instructors and exercise real instructional judgment. Candidates must be at least eighteen, hold BSAC Open Water Instructor and normally BSAC Advanced Diver, with the applicable teaching experience and current BSAC prerequisites. The program covers advanced lesson planning, dive management, instructor leadership, teaching in more demanding environments and expedition-level planning. Red Sea Diving runs the program in Hurghada for £1,500 per person, with BSAC membership, assessment and certification fees charged separately, subject to BSAC authorization and Instructor Trainer availability.
Moreover, the step from Open Water Instructor is a step in responsibility, not only in diving depth: an Advanced Instructor is expected to support other instructors and keep standards consistent, not just teach a good lesson alone. Therefore we review your instructor and diver qualifications before we confirm a program, and we explain in writing any BSAC fee that applies. The program follows the standards published by the British Sub-Aqua Club for advanced instructor development.

How does BSAC Advanced Instructor differ from Open Water Instructor?
An Open Water Instructor teaches a lesson. By contrast, an Advanced Instructor runs the training day: coordinating other instructors, planning for more experienced students and more demanding environments, and stepping in when a plan needs to change. Consequently the emphasis moves from your own teaching toward supporting and maintaining the standard of everyone teaching around you.
Furthermore, the diving prerequisite reflects the same shift. An OWI candidate needs Dive Leader; an Advanced Instructor candidate needs Advanced Diver, the grade built on expedition planning and seamanship. In other words, Advanced Instructor asks you to be both a better diver and a better organizer, not only a better teacher.
In short, this is also the point where BSAC’s instructor and diver pathways meet: an Advanced Diver who is already an Open Water Instructor is exactly who this course is written for.
What does BSAC Advanced Instructor development cover?
Advanced teaching skills
Adapting instruction to more experienced divers and more complex training situations: student experience, objectives, conditions and assessment together.
Advanced lesson planning
Learning objectives, student capability, site suitability, gas, depth, environmental conditions, emergency procedures and an alternative plan for each one.
Dive management
Above all, organizing divers, planning buddy teams, briefing, monitoring the activity and coordinating instructors as conditions change.
Instructor leadership
Communicating clearly, supporting other instructors, maintaining standards and spotting a problem early enough to fix it.
Advanced diving environments
Likewise, greater depth, current, reduced visibility and more complex dive plans, always within BSAC standards and candidate qualifications.
Expedition and dive planning
In addition, objectives, team structure, boats, gas, decompression, weather, communications and emergency arrangements for more ambitious diving.
Instructor judgment
Reading student ability, instructor capability, weather and sea state, and knowing when to change or cancel a training activity.
Developing other instructors
Furthermore, supporting newer instructors as they build their own teaching, which is what separates this level from teaching alone.
Coordinating a team
Finally, running a training day with more than one instructor working, so the standard stays consistent across all of them.
However, leadership here is demonstrated through judgment rather than simply holding a qualification. In other words, the program develops real capability, and BSAC’s assessment requirements confirm it.

How is BSAC Advanced Instructor development scheduled?
-
Review, before anything else
To begin with, we review your OWI qualification date, diver grade, courses taught, dive-management and rescue experience, and current BSAC membership.
-
Gap plan
Then a written development plan, because candidates arrive with different teaching experience and different gaps toward the assessment requirements.
-
Advanced planning and leadership
Next, advanced lesson planning, dive-management exercises and leadership development, worked through on paper before they go to sea.
-
Advanced environments
Afterward, teaching practice in more demanding conditions, deeper sites, boat operations and coordinating alongside other instructors.
-
Assessment
Finally, preparation for and completion of the BSAC Advanced Instructor assessment requirements that apply to your route.
However, there is no fixed duration. Consequently the schedule follows your existing experience, the authorized event and current BSAC assessment arrangements.

Why train in Hurghada?
An Advanced Instructor needs advanced environments to practice in, and Hurghada supplies them within one day’s range: sheltered reefs for the basics, walls and current for real judgment, wrecks for planning complexity and daily boat operations that never run exactly the same way twice. Consequently the coordination and leadership this course develops gets tested against a working dive center, not a classroom scenario.
Moreover, the same base runs daily diving and liveaboards, so an Advanced Instructor here works alongside real teams managing real logistics. Our procedures sit on the diving safety page.
Furthermore, we teach both BSAC and PADI, which means our instructor team already coordinates across systems every week, exactly the kind of consistency an Advanced Instructor is asked to maintain.
